If you're driving in east or downtown Olympia on Saturday, Oct. 17, plan for extra time. A march and rally organized by Olympia Indivisible and Evergreen Resistance are scheduled that day, according to the organizers' announcement as reported by The JOLT News and the Thurston Chronicle.

Schedule and route:

  • 9:45 a.m.: Participants gather at Lions Park, 800 Wilson St. SE.
  • About 10:30 a.m.: The march reaches the Thurston County Atrium Building, 3000 Pacific Ave. SE.
  • Afterward: The group returns to Lions Park along Martin Way.
  • Noon to 2 p.m.: A rally on the Washington State Capitol Campus.

Closures and delays. The organizers' announcement, as reported, does not list official street closures. Expect pedestrians along Pacific Avenue and Martin Way between Lions Park and the county campus in late morning, and crowds and limited parking around the Capitol Campus at midday. Organizers also mentioned banners on I-5 overpasses without naming locations.

Areas to avoid. Between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., consider using I-5 or State Avenue instead of Pacific Avenue and Martin Way, and avoid Capitol Way and Capitol Campus parking from noon to 2 p.m.
