Halloween falls on Saturday, Oct. 31, and this week's poll asks a simple question: should Johnson Point residents support trick-or-treating? Here's what to know before you vote yes or no.
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, Oct. 31, and it raises a familiar question for Johnson Point: should the neighborhood welcome trick-or-treaters?
For some households, porch lights and costumed visitors are a highlight of the fall. Others would rather keep the light off. This week, we're asking you to weigh in.
After dark. The sun sets in Olympia at 5:56 p.m. on Halloween, and civil twilight ends at 6:28 p.m., according to timeanddate.com. Daylight saving time ends the next morning.
Safety tips. The Thurston County Sheriff's Office advises trick-or-treating in groups, with parents accompanying young children, and mapping out a safe route ahead of time. After dark, it recommends carrying a flashlight, choosing well-lighted streets and wearing light colors or reflective tape. Children should stop only at familiar homes with outside lights on, and families should check all treats at home before anyone eats them.
Another option. Thurston County's Project SAFER Trunk or Treat runs Thursday, Oct. 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 412 Lilly Road NE in Olympia. No registration is required.
